Not a crime to make it rhyme

Sixty Year 8 and Year 9 students recently arrived in the Reception Activity Street brandishing books of their own composition.

The students had previously studied the rhyming work of Julia Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, The Snail and the Whale and many others (one of Reception’s favourite authors). They had written and illustrated their books and only required an audience to see how they would be received.  Despite Reception children generally being quite an unforgiving audience, the response was a unanimously good one. After reading the books, the children settled to tasks and activities based on rhyme and rhythm.

Reception teachers and pupils would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to our new Year 8 and Year 9 friends.  This is something we will definitely continue to do in the future.
