An Inspiring and Entertaining Visit

Michael returns to Bahrain and Happy Birthday to Jimmy!

Saar was delighted to welcome two Chelsea Pensioners on Monday 9 November and present them with a cheque to help support the work of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

Retired Staff Sergeant James (Jimmy) Anderson, and Michael Shanahan told the children how well the Chelsea Hospital looks after veterans and that they get to visit many schools to talk about the sacrifices the servicemen make. The children were fascinated to learn their stories of growing up and joining the army and air force. The two pensioners visited infant and junior classrooms and the children were extremely impressed with their bright red uniforms and their medals. The visit was made even more special due to the fact that Michael had been stationed in Bahrain in the 1970s and simply could not believe how much Bahrain has changed.

Their visit culminated in a Year 6 assembly when Michael played Happy Birthday on his bagpipes and the whole of Year 6 sang along on the occasion of Jimmy’s 80th birthday!
