Sun, Sand and Fun

On Saturday 13 March, a mixed team of Year 9s and 11s made their way to Marassi beach for a 6-aside Beach Volleyball competition. Without really knowing what to expect, we played the Philippine School first. Despite their obvious talent, we managed to dispatch them in straight sets to start on a winning note. We then had a tougher match against our old rivals, the British School. Despite dropping a set to them, we ran out eventual winners. After a short break (and dip in the sea) we returned to face the unbeaten Bayan School to decide the overall winners. By now the sun was high in the sky and the sand was scorching hot. We started poorly and lost the first set. However, after a bit of a team talk and reshuffle we came back to level the match. As a result, it went to a final deciding set. Throughout this set, scores were very close. However, we handled the nerves best and won a very tight decider to remain undefeated and win the overall tournament and trophy.
