Fantastic Football

Junior Girls

This year, we have had an amazing football season, with great competition. We started off playing a mixed tournament, which helped us to communicate better and meet footballers from other schools. After one mixed tournament, we began playing with our own teams against two BSB teams and RVIS. We had a really good time being challenged by them before we went to Oman for BSME. Then a select number of players travelled to the British School of Muscat to compete in the BSME competition. We played against many talented teams from different schools around the Middle East. We had really tough competition, but, overall, we became stronger, working together as a team and improving throughout. We got to the 7th and 8th playoffs which was a successful match – we won this match on a tantalising penalty shootout. We were all so happy to finish so positively. In the final tournament of the season at Riffa Views our A team played some fantastic football, winning every single match against two BSB teams, Riffa Views and the St Chris B team. We ended up deserved winners of the tournament. To end the season we had our final fixture of 7 a side matches against Tekkers Football Club at Kick Off Academy where we tried to play our best. We were playing against older girls and stronger teams but we managed to fight back and draw a number of matches. ~Leena Makhdum and Alejandra Del Rio

Junior Boys

The Under 13 Football season began with training starting in September. Over 70 boys from Year 7 and Year 8 attended sessions in both the Saar and Isa Town campuses. The Bahrain Schools Sports League tournaments started on the 26 November at RVIS with a Mixer Tournament (All schools mixed their teams up from British School, RVIS, Bahrain School and St Christopher’s School).  There were then two Tournaments on the 14 and 21 January, where St Christopher’s were the overall winners. The season ended with a Final tournament at RVIS where St Christopher’s A team were Runners-Up and the B team came 3rd. I would like to thanks Mr Neely and Mr Chihwayi for their support throughout the season.

The Intermediate Girls Football Teams enjoyed a very successful season with all Tournament matches being played at RVIS. Practice sessions at school under the watchful eye of Mr Chihwayi and Mrs Hobday paid off and the girls prepared themselves for their League Festivals and ultimate Tournaments. The ‘A’ Squad remained undefeated throughout the season until the Final Tournament where they lost narrowly to a strong BSB ‘A’ team. The BSB ‘A’ team then suffered a defeat to the Bahrain School. Thankfully, a much superior goal difference for St Christopher’s A Team meant they were overall champions for the season. It was pleasing to see some of the girls graduate from the B squad to the A squad as the season developed rewarded by their commitment to training and team work. Thank you to parents who turned up to support their daughters at RVIS for the Tournaments and endured some chilly, late afternoons. Also, many thanks to the staff and students at RVIS who hosted and organized the events.

Intermediate Boys

The Intermediate Boys Football season was a fantastic success this year. There was significant interest from both Year 9 and Year 10 students to be part of the team, leading to the School entering two teams into this Year’s competition. The season consisted of four tournaments. Both teams played very well in all the tournaments, showing fantastic determination and commitment. Our first team ran out overall winners, with the second team making the top four. Captain, Louis Mulleague and Vice Captain, Callum Dawson were both inspirational from midfield and defence respectively with Fritz Tautenhahn and Kareem Bagaeen providing the firepower up front. As coaches, we wish to congratulate all the students who played in the teams this year.
