It was an honor to welcome you all to the St Christopher’s Senior School IB Visual Arts Exhibition on 25 March 2019. This year’s Exhibition showcased the exceptional Artwork of our two Higher level students, Julia Hashem and Raul Vlajic. As usual, our students put on a show of outstanding work that was really symbolic of our student body. The Exhibition was very well attended and the opening remarks were made by Mr Nick Wilson.

The students explored an extensive variety of cultures and examined both contemporary and historical modes of Art through investigating unique subject matter. The product of this was apparent in the diverse body of work on display this year seeing students producing work in the forms of, Textiles, Installation, Painting and Drawing, Photography and Mixed Media.

Julia explored themes of memory, displacement and loss, all connecting with her cultural identity. Although her work was underpinned by personal themes, exploring images of family members consolidated an even deeper connection with her art; the creation of her artwork was thus a cathartic and sentimental experience.

Raul sensitively and intelligently explored concepts rooted in gender and human relationships, embracing a diverse approach while at the same time demonstrating a strong understanding of coherence. As such, his exhibition was highly engaging, thought-provoking and aesthetically appealing.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Joe Mulleague, for all his efforts in teaching the students over the last two years, and for putting on a fantastic exhibition. The dedication from the students, and all the staff involved, concluded in a remarkable and inspired year’s work.
