Basketball U13 Boys
The Under 13 Boys Basketball squad have had a very successful season. This year, St Christopher’s were able to put out two teams. These teams met on a regular basis on a Sunday at Bahrain School and St Christopher’s School. The season started with a mixer tournament and all four schools (British School, RVIS, Bahrain and St Christopher’s) mixed all teams up and played in a friendly tournament. There were then two league festivals and an end of season tournament. This year, the Player of the Season was Rakan Da Cruz and the Most Improved Player was Tyler Mommsen. Basketball U13 Girls
The U13 Girls Basketball Team had a very successful season in terms of participation levels and success at the Festival Tournaments which took place at The Bahrain School and at St Christopher’s. Up to 32 girls attended the practices and formed a very promising squad of players. A few friendly games amongst themselves got them into a more competitive frame of mind and we took two squads to the Festivals. The ‘A’ Squad remained undefeated throughout the season and won the Competitive League which took place on the last day of the season. The ‘B’ Squad did not enjoy so much success in terms of winning games but, nevertheless, played with great spirit and enthusiasm. They never gave up and thanks to Carmen Carritt’s (Year 12), coaching and expertise, certainly came away from the season with a great deal more knowledge and aptitude for the game. Very well done all of you – you showed great sportsmanship throughout.

Basketball U15 Boys
St Christopher’s School U15 Boys Basketball squad had an outstanding season this year in the Private Schools Sports League. In the final tournament, St Christopher’s grew stronger throughout the round robin tournament. In the final game, we faced our old rivals Bahrain. The atmosphere was tense at the beginning of the game as each team’s defensive and attacking strategy was outstanding. We were without a basket for 5 minutes with both teams unable to capitalise. Eventually, we managed to creep ahead and put Bahrain School under pressure which lifted the team’s confidence. After the successful baskets, our attacking formation was evident as the boys started to create space and believed in their own ability to win the game. Overall, it was an outstanding effort shown by both teams, the sportsmanship was high and challenges were fair. Well done to all on a great season.
Basketball U15 Girls
A Team
A superb season for the Intermediate Girls A team. Led by the formidable Danielle Wilkinson, they fought for every rebound, showing great discipline in defence before turning it into attack in the blink of an eye. The Girls remained undefeated all season, winning the league along the way and surprising some more experienced teams with their sheer grit and determination. There were notable performances from defensive rock, Luna Dreyer, counter attack expert Jesse-Leigh Baker and inspirational Captain, Danielle Wilkinson. With so many Year 9s in the squad, the future looks bright for U15 Girls Basketball.

B Team
The B team this year were coached by the knowledgeable and committed Year 12 pair of Cezar Musharrafiyyah and Carmen Carritt. Both helped to improve the Girls enormously and to develop an excellent team spirit in the squad. The Bs were competitive with most A teams and would have been much closer on the score cards had the odd ball bounced the other way. Alex Farsari worried defences with her pace and dribbling all season, ably supported by Captain, Eva Subsol and the feisty Charlie Axtell. The girls should be very proud of their efforts in what was a tough league.

Basketball U19 Boys
After weeks of pre-season training, an extraordinarily enthusiastic groups of boys found the opening pre-season friendly tournament a bit of a shock. Fast and frenetic games replaced their structured training sessions with their team mates. However, it was a very useful learning experience and we had a very useful two hour Saturday workout with Coach, Chris Clark. We then fielded the only full strength side of the season and incredibly beat the mighty Bahrain school for the first time in over a decade. Unfortunately, injuries then took some of our key players, most notably, Bradley Altman and Hamza Jawad. This lead to a disappointing loss to RVIS. We bounced back to play very well against a talented British School outfit, but were outplayed in this fixture. All that remained was the final tournament of the season. First up, we had to play a Bahrain school who were out for revenge for their earlier loss. This task became even more difficult with the loss to injury of Cezar Musharrafiyyah. We lost. This put us in the third and fourth place play off against RVIS. Despite playing very well and leading for 99% of this game, a final 30 second three pointer meant we lost by 1 point!

With two successful games against RVIS and BSB, we met our match against Bahrain School which landed us second place in the League.
Tournament Final – 3rd place
“The end of season tournament took place at RVIS on Wednesday 29 March. It was a nail biting first game against RVIS, losing just 11-12 in the final minute! The Girls also played well against their strongest rival, Bahrain School, and they never gave in. The final score was 22-6 to Bahrain School” Mrs Stewart

I would also like to thank the Senior Girls team for their positive and supportive nature towards each other, even when games were tough! It has been a pleasure coaching and working with you.
