Year 9 Aspirations Day

IMG_8079

On Sunday 7 December, Year 9 students met with their Form Tutors to discuss a variety of issues, which may influence or at least inform their GCSE Options choices for Year 10. Students were encouraged to reflect on their own strengths and weaknesses, qualities and attributes and to begin to consider what choices they might make as a result of the Options process. In preparation for this event, students were asked to review and update their Portfolios to celebrate their achievements to-date and to prepare a Curriculum Vitae that, in time, will evolve into a full record of their academic and extra-curricular achievements.  On the day, students were invited to wear appropriate business dress to further enhance the sense of formality for the occasion. I can truly say that they looked very grown-up and I was really proud of the lengths they had gone to.  The Year 9 Form Tutors reported back very positively and said they had found out an awful lot about their tutees interests, hopes and dreams.  The day was thoroughly enjoyable for students and staff alike and provided an important first step in considering future plans.

Y9 Aspirations

Year 9  GCSE Options Evening

An audience of over four hundred parents and students attended the Year 9 GCSE Options Information Evening held on Monday 12 January.  Parents enjoyed a presentation based on the Year 9 Aspirations Day held in December. As the formal aspect of the evening got underway, Bryon Pearce, Assistant Head of Senior School, guided parents and students through the Options process and outlined the key features of this important period of a student’s life. Parents were invited to informally meet with Heads of Subject, subject specialists and students in Years 10 and above, to learn more about the curriculum opportunities ahead. An electronic copy of the Options booklet can be found at on Parent Portal.
