Ed Goodwin Recognised for his “Outstanding Individual Contribution to International Education”

Principal of St Christopher’s School, Ed Goodwin OBE, has been presented with an award in recognition of his ‘Outstanding Individual Contribution to International Education’ at a prestigious ceremony in London, UK.

The BISAs (British International School Awards) provide the opportunity for British international schools to share best practice, creative endeavours, community participation and innovation. Mr Goodwin was delighted yet ‘speechless’ with his award as the winner in this category is only unveiled on the night of the awards.

Ed Goodwin: “I attended the award ceremony thinking that my only reason to be there was to hear whether St Chris had won the Safeguarding Initiative of the Year award. The first award of the night was the “Outstanding Individual Contribution to International Education” category; as I listened Trevor Rowell read out a description of the winner’s career, it gradually dawned that it might be me! I was still absolutely dumbfounded when my name was read out. I then had to say a few words in acceptance and, for me, the most important part of that was to acknowledge that whatever has been achieved has only been possible with the support and dedication of so many people I have worked with over the years”.

“An independent judging panel, chaired by Professor Jeff Thompson CBE of the University of Bath, agreed the shortlist and selected all award winners. Each entry is judged within the context of the school which means that any British international school has a chance of winning, regardless of its resources or size of project. Judges reward excellence and innovation.” https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/british-international-school-awards-2018-finalists-richard-gaskell/

Mr Goodwin, along with Head of Junior School, Wendy Bataineh, attended the ceremony, which was held on 22nd January 2018 at the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden, London, to represent St Christopher’s who were nominated for the award of “Outstanding Initiative to Support Student Safeguarding”. The school was very proud to be shortlisted as one of only three to be recognized for this notable accomplishment.

Wendy Batainah: “I felt incredibly happy and proud that Ed’s achievements over so many years were recognised at the Celebrating Excellence awards in International Education last night. There was a real sense of occasion at the Grand Connaught rooms with a red carpet on entry and so many eminent educators gathered together in one room!  It is not often Ed is taken by surprise and the announcement that he had won the “Outstanding Individual contribution to International Education” award made for a magical and quite overwhelming start to the evening. For St Christopher’s also to be recognised in the Safeguarding Children category later in the awards means it was undoubtedly an evening I will never forget.”

Ed Goodwin’s services to education were also recognized in 2015, when he was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours for services to education across the Middle East.  He received his award from HRH Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.

St Christopher’s School Community would like to congratulate Mr Goodwin on being recognized for his accomplishments, and thank him for his consistent dedication to ensuring the very best educational opportunities are made available to benefit our students.
