Raise Your Voice

Unplugged is a musical event in which Senior School students can audition to perform acoustic versions of songs to an audience of parents, friends and teachers in an intimate and casual setting. The most recent concert, Unplugged XIV, was held on Thursday 19 October 2017. The event was organised by the Music Department, in particular by Mrs Bourner, Head of Music. Tticket and programme design was overseen by Faye Weaver and sound by Yousif Abu Hamad and Aarti Rangarajan. All of the student performers auditioned to perform in the concert, and theirperformances were assessed with particularly close attention to expression and musical interest, resulting in a variety of diverse and impressive performances on the night.

Mrs Bourner was delighted to have raised a total of BD378 from ticket sales and refreshments. All proceeds will be sent to the Gurase School in East Nepal, a community that the Senior School has been supporting for a number of years now.

Unplugged XIV featured talented performers from Years 7 to 13, and a wide range of songs, by artists including Adele, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and The Black Keys. In addition to the traditional features of Unplugged, a new addition to this concert was an introduction given by each performer, introducing themselves and explaining why they had chosen their song. This made Unplugged XIV a unique event, as the personal feeling behind the performances was revealed, and the concert was an entertaining evening for both the performers and the audience. ~ Faye Weaver, Student Leader for Music
