BPSSL Athletics

On a boiling hot Saturday morning, 30 March, a determined, talented and very enthusiastic team from St Christopher’s made their way to the Bahrain School to compete in the annual BPSSL Athletics event. Despite the heat, our athletes competed magnificently, winning a total of 27 Gold Medals. In the Junior Boys event, Mounir Hinedi led the way with three individual Gold Medals and three Records in the 200m, 400m and Shot Putt. He was ably supported by Charlie Sissons with two Gold Medals and two Records in the 1500m and Long Jump. Rex Tinsley also dominated the 800m race winning Gold and setting a new Championship Record.  Mounir then combined with Rex, Aditya Mori and Bradley Mattam to lead the Junior Boys’ team to victory in the 4 x 100m Relay. Amelia Rennie won the Junior Girls 800m in a new record time and Danielle Wilkinson won the Shot Putt with a new Record too.  Aoife Rudman and Jemima Myles showed huge amounts of determination to gain Silver Medals in the 100m and 1500m respectively. The Intermediate Boys’ Team punched well above their weight with Michael Holland collecting a Gold in the 100m. Will Licence then ensured a clean sweep of sprint medals by winning the 200m and 400m (both in record times). Will Licence also won the Long Jump and Sam Mannings easily won Gold in the Shot Putt Final. Unfortunately, the Team were just pipped for Gold in the 4 x 100m Relay. The Intermediate Girls also did the School proud. They won Gold Medals through Marwa Al Matrook (200m), Kianna Legg (Long Jump) and the 4 x 100m Team of Marwa, Kianna, Cayla Harris and Danielle Wilkinson. In the Senior Boys age group, Sean Ross won three Silvers in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump. Marwan Favre also made the 100m Final, winning a Bronze Medal. Finally, and despite an injury to speedster Kate Addison, the Senior Girls’ Team picked up three more Gold Medals. Reema Kaiali (Championship Record) comfortably won the Long Jump. Rebecca Sutton gained victory in the Triple Jump (Championship Record) and these two teamed up with Eleni Tsappis and Jana Al Afoo to win the 4 x 100m in yet another Championship Record!! Congratulations to all the athletes who took part and thank you to Mrs Stewart and Mr Vaughan for organising the Team.
