Junior Girls Football Season 2014-2015
Following on from a very successful BSME Tournament in Kuwait, where the BSME Under 13 Girls Champions did not concede a goal for the second year running, they played a number of hard fought matches to come out on top of the League table. IKNS then battled hard in the Final of the Junior Girls Bahrain League tournament to earn an equalizer in the dying seconds of extra time to make it 2:2 and win the dreaded penalty shootout. Heartbreak for the girls as IKNS slotted home their 6th penalty to make it 3-2 on penalties. As a result, although unbeaten on the field, St Chris finished as Runners-Up. Practice then resumed in the build-up to the fixture of the year and the culmination of a great season. On Wednesday 25 February 2015, the U13 Girls team played against the Bahrain National U14 team. Based on the result last year, Bahrain 7 St Chris 3, the Girls knew this would be tough but they came prepared, having trained hard and warmed up with a number of fixtures against St Chris Intermediate Girls. Again, we were treated to fantastic Bahraini hospitality on a wonderful grass pitch with a professional referee and two assistant referees. The match started well with a couple of attacks from Danny Wilkinson, Bruna Elias (Capt) and Erica Moolman but the opposition then broke fast on the left and shot from range into the top right hand corner to give the National team the advantage. This seemed to energize our team who then produced wave after wave of attack. Danny Wilkinson scored the equalizer with a powerful long range shot from the left and Erica put us into the lead, Bruna extended the lead to go in 3-1 at half-time! The quasi total possession and full on attack did not stop in the second half either with Danny scoring a second and Leya Hussain breaking twice down the centre to put the game out of reach at 1-6 to St Chris. The Bahrain team managed a consolation goal to end the match at Bahrain U14 Girls 2 St Chris U 13 Girls 6. A shock victory but maybe not so with such an incredibly strong team! Many thanks to the players for their sheer effort and determination, to the parents for their support and to the BFA for the invitation to play against the Bahrain team. We are fortunate enough to have another invite to play but seeing as they are now scouting a number of our players, I don’t think it will be easy to achieve such an emphatic victory again!
Intermediate Girls Football
This season, the Intermediate Girls Football team have played some excellent quality football, and came Runners-Up in the League. The team approached the season with commitment and dedication, and improved with each game. A big well done to the whole squad, who were led by Sarah Welch as Captain and Kia Hanahoe as Vice Captain:

Although some players suffered injuries early on, each of the players contributed in some way to the success of the team, and all of the girls should be proud of themselves. Well done, ladies!
Senior Girls Football
The Senior Girls Football Team had a tremendous season. Hopes were high with so many of last year’s League winning team again available. Add to this a fine crop of Year 11s, and there was every reason for optimism. With dedication, commitment and enthusiasm to both training and matches, this talented group of girls won both the League and Tournament. They excelled with their skills on the field, working together as a unit in every game. There was a real sense of comradeship and team spirit. A team made up predominantly of Year 13 girls will be difficult to replace but we can look forward to trying to repeat this success next year bolstered by the new talent that has emerged. Over the course of the season they have consistently shown their ability to play and work to the highest levels. Their attitudes to training and sportsmanship have been first class and their camaraderie and sense of fun have served to make this season an absolute pleasure for us as coaches. With everyone who played involved in important examinations this Summer, I hope their success on the playing field is matched by equal success academically – they certainly deserve it!
