An Enchanting Evening of Music

Unplugged XIII, the first ever entirely student-run Unplugged concert, was held on Thursday 27 April 2017 in the St Christopher’s Senior School Hall. Year 12 IB Diploma students, Yousif Abu Hamad, Marwa Al Matrook, Aarti Rangarajan, Théa Toutoungy and Faye Weaver approached Ms Hill in December 2016 with the intention of running the Unplugged XIII as an IB CAS project. As a team, we took complete responsibility for the tasks necessary to make this a successful event. From running auditions and designing tickets and posters to running the actual concert, we all contributed our skills and talents to organise every aspect of Unplugged. The charity that we decided to donate the proceeds of Unplugged XIII to was Be Free, which aims to heal the scars of child abuse and neglect. We were honoured that two representatives of the charity were able to attend the concert. We were able to raise BD450 and we were very pleased with the outcome of our efforts. We celebrated the traditional features of Unplugged, such as having performances of acoustic songs by students from all Year groups. The immense musical talent of the students at St Christopher’s was showcased through covers of artists such as Lorde, Adele, Pink Floyd and Nina Simone. However, we also embraced the opportunity to add some changes, including holding bake sales before the concert and during the interval. The feedback that the Unplugged Student Team received after the concert was extremely positive, and we were very proud of our achievement. We are also very grateful for the support and guidance of everyone who helped us to make Unplugged XIII a success.
