A Weekend of Inspiration and Learning

St Christopher’s School were proud to welcome the EdTech Team featuring Google for Education to Bahrain and hosted the 2nd annual Google Summit on 15 and 16 April. 170 innovative educators attended from across the Gulf and 35 of our committed staff gave up their weekend to attend the conference and represent the school.

The programme featured Google for Education Innovative Educators, Google for Education Certified Trainers, practising administrators, and other solution providers. St Christopher’s were also proud to have our own staff Jo Mannings (MIS Co-ordinator), Rob van der Eyken (Year 6 Year Leader) and Gavin Boyle (Director of ICT) also present to share innovative approaches during the spotlight sessions.

Keynote presentations from Mark Garrision, Ben Friesen and Chrystal Hoe (part of the EdTech Team) inspired delegates, followed by several 1 hour workshops, where teachers explored the very latest apps and 21st Century pedagogic approach. Participants were able to attend beginner through advanced sessions on uses of Google Apps in the classroom.

The weekend was a buzz with learning and inspiration that is certain to be embraced in classrooms at St Chris. As one delegate commented, “Where do I start? A very inspirational and motivational weekend. Amazing to spend time with people who have thought outside the box and used their educational experiences to shape the future. The best professional development I have ever experienced.”

There was a fantastic ‘festival’ atmosphere which was made all the more special by the wonderful Google coloured balloons from Party Mania. Thank you to the Platinum and Gold Sponsors, to Yum Cha Catering and all the St Christopher’s staff who provided technical, audio/visual, and on-site support throughout the weekend.
