The Early Birdie Catches the Trophy

St Chris and Doha College Teams

Doha College visited to play a match against the St Chris Golf Team and compete in the Bahrain Junior Open. They brought a very strong team with several single figure handicaps and a scratch golfer who is only 12 years old!! The students were hosted by the parents of the St Chris Golfers and we are all very grateful for their help as this trip could not have taken place without their support. Many thanks to Mr and Mrs Guinaine, Mr and Mrs Al-Borshaid, Mr and Mrs Brough and Mr and Mrs Fantechi. The Golfers were up early for the first day teeing off at 7am and this may have had an effect on our players as we ended the day 5 shots behind our visitors with a score of 433 to their 428.

One player who obviously didn’t mind the early start was Lorenzo Fantechi who shot an excellent Nett 65! Day two saw a much better performance from the St Chris golfers and they managed to turn round the deficit to record a 4 shot victory by 874 to 878. This was helped by a magnificent Nett 62 by Nayel Borshaid. In fact, when added to his first day score of Nett 67 Nayel managed to win the Overall Nett Prize in the Under 16 category which was a tremendous achievement! So Faris Brough, the St Chris Golf Captain, collected the trophy and is determined to hold onto it when the return match is held in Qatar during the Winter Term at the Doha Golf Club. Well done to everyone who participated and many thanks to all the parents and supporters who came along to cheer on the golfing stars of the future!
