RAK’ing it on Campus!

RAK1

During the last week of the first spring half term, the Senior School’s Community Service Captains lead a number of initiatives to celebrate ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ week. Each day of the week, a team of Service Captains stood at the entrances to the School to give out special greetings to arriving students. High fives, compliments, stickers and smiles were given out to remind students about the focus for the week. Mrs Al Ruffai announced different ‘Kindness Challenges’ each day in the bulletin that featured prompts such as being particularly kind to the cleaners or the environment. Students in Years 7-9 also received ‘RAK’ cards that encouraged them to perform an act of kindness for someone and then acknowledge it by giving that person a card. Students were quick to get involved and cards spread around the school rapidly.

Year 11 students Ann Bennett and Nezar AlKujok also created a Random Act of Kindness Week mural with their friends. Ann and Nezar worked with the Art Department to produce a fantastic piece of art work to recognise the activities of the week. ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ week also featured the continuation of the Feed The Need Enrichment project. 8B made a special effort to bring in a great deal of food that they delivered to the A’Ali fridge. They were particularly happy with their Feed The Need trip as migrant workers came to pick up food items whilst the students were there. The students of 8B certainly completed a wonderful act of kindness. This project is due to continue every week of the remaining academic year until all tutor groups in Years 7-9 have visited the fridge.
