Fabulous Fable

“The princess may try seven times to escape, by changing her colour and changing her shape.”

But each time Princess Eliza changes – into a blue fish, a yellow chick, a red fox or a black cat – the wicked wizard finds her and sets her another horrible task.

Will this plucky princess be able to outwit him and escape back to the palace in time to cut her birthday cake?

In May, 151 children from Year 1 became Kings, Queens, Jesters, Wizards, Witches, Fairy Godmothers and Princesses and answered this question with great style and flair, as they performed songs and narrated the story of ‘The Princess and The Wizard’. The show was based on the much loved story by UK Children’s Laureate and popular author, Julia Donaldson.

Each class was dressed to represent different characters and sang a song illustrating different parts of the story. The stage was resplendent in brightly coloured costumes and the smiles on each of the children’s faces showed how much they enjoyed performing.

Nia, 1E looked stunning in a faithful recreation of the dress worn by Princess Eliza in the book and the wizard, played by Eytan, 1D, was one of the many highlights of the show with his terrible, evil laugh! Eva, 1C was a perfect, graceful forgetful Fairy Godmother and a number of children from each class were narrators who spoke brilliantly, without prompting from any of the teachers who sat nervously in the front row.

It was a remarkable to see our wonderful Year 1 children go from curtain up to curtain call without any intervention from any of the staff. Well done Year 1. You made your teachers and parents very proud.
