Pass the Baton

In this year’s popular event organised by the Bahrain Round Table, the Senior School entered four teams and the Saar Campus entered two teams.

Marathon 1

At the Senior Campus, places were advertised in September but it was not until a few days before the race that the places in the two staff and two student teams were finalised. A variety of excuses, mainly from the staff of course. The Oman Trip meant we had no Year 8 students but it was good to see volunteers from all other years, and, in particular, twelve students from Years 12 and 13 taking part.  We were a bit worried on the morning of the Relay. Would all thirty students (and twenty eight staff) manage to remember their race numbers, find their way to their starting point, arrive on time and manage to run their stage in the heat and humidity?  Thanks to all parents for dropping them off (and for waiting around). The baton for both student teams, A and B, managed to start at the BIC on time and finish 42 km later with very few problems along the way. A special thanks goes to Maddie Harrison (Year 7) who happened to be at the start of stage 8 when we had a missing runner.  She stepped in and still managed a sprint finish to the BIC in her own stage, the final one of the race.  Charlie Sissons and Louise Leijonberg also volunteered to complete two legs. Charlie ran the fastest stage of the day as he started with stage 1 for the B team, closely followed by Kizzy Price, who ran the first stage for the A team. The student A and B teams finished just 6 minutes apart, team B just ahead, finishing in 4 hours and 11 minutes.

Marathon2

This year was the best year yet for the St Chris Saar A team. On the day, every team member showed an incredible amount of fitness and determination and virtually everyone put in personal best running times! As a team, they completed the run in a best ever time of 3.27:04.

Out of 174 teams they came in in a fantastic 18th place.  Thank you and well done to all – the medals were well deserved! St Chris Saar A team did not manage to beat the staff A team (our target for next year?) but we did finish a long time before the staff B team but that is another story………

Congratulations to every member who ran or helped out. It was a fantastic day and a great achievement made possible by everyone.
