Young Musicians of the Gulf
On Tuesday 28 January 2014, St Christopher’s School welcomed 115 Musicians from around the Gulf to the 15th annual Young Musicians of the Gulf Competition and celebrated the return of the event to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Competition, which has grown into a premier music event for young people in the region, was inaugurated by St Christopher’s School in 1998. On the opening day of the Competition, all Soloists, who ranged in age from 8 to 18, performed for the four distinguished adjudicators, Richard Dickins, Michael Hankinson, Chloe Hanslip and Wendy Holland, who flew in from the UK especially for the event. The adjudicators were extremely impressed by the high standard of the performances throughout all stages of the Competition. Performances ranged from instrumental pieces on Classical Guitar, Flute, Piano, Recorder, Saxophone and Violin to West End Show and Baroque Singing. At the Grand Final, which was held in the majestic setting of the Crowne Plaza on Thursday 30 January, the large audience was treated to recitals which received great critical acclaim. Presenters of the Trophies included Latesh Chandra, General Manager, Ambassador Stores, Russ Dixon, Deputy Head of Mission, Charge d’ Affaires, British Embassy, Pascal Eggerstedt, General Manager of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Ed Goodwin, Principal of St Christopher’s School, Amit Kansal, Head of Branches, Global Consumer Group, Citibank, His Excellency Thomas Krajeski, the USA Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Maureen Stephenson, Deputy Chair, Board of Governors, Captain Simon Taylor. The Competition remains indebted to its major Sponsors: Citibank, Crowne Plaza and Yamaha for their invaluable support. We are all very much looking forward to YMOG 2015!
