From the 40s to the 20th Century!
Year 6 went back in time last term and visited Britain from 1940 right through up to the year 2000 as part of their History Day. Each class represented a different decade and dressed accordingly. This was a great chance for the teachers to dig out their old disco suits, flared trousers and Mohican haircuts! Luckily the children were much more sensible and wore some fantastic costumes – we had musicians, film stars, sporting celebrities and famous politicians – and they all helped make the day a vibrant and exciting experience.
All the children used their iPads, mobile phones and tablets to answer a QR code treasure hunt and to take part in a massive Twentieth Century quiz in the hall. They also played songs from their decade which they had learned in their music lessons. A traditional British tea in the hall concluded the day (thanks to all our parent helpers!) and it was a wonderful way to round off our history topic. As Fabi in 6F (the 1970s) said “It was a groovy day!”
