Out of this world

“Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Year One. Its ongoing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no child has gone before…”

In June, Year 1 was the location of a startling ALIEN INVASION!

Instead of the children who normally grace our classrooms, we opened the classroom door and were astounded to see them replaced by small aliens, robots, monsters, Star Wars rebels, Jedi and Sith lords and Star Trek crew members from all corners of the universe. Even Buzz Lightyear was there to ensure peace and order to the proceedings.

This term, the Year 1 children have enjoyed finding out about the planets in the solar system (lots of disputes over how unfair it is that Pluto is not a planet anymore!), creating posters, writing information books and stories set in space, and also creating their own imaginative aliens.

Our Alien and Space Day finished off a brilliant term where the children have had a tremendous amount of fun learning about space, both in fact and fiction. As well as a parade to show off their awesome costumes, the children made astronauts or alien moving pictures and enjoyed an amazing space themed feast.

Faisal Qamber, 1B said afterwards, “I don’t want to leave Year 1. Space Day was the best and you don’t get to dress up so much in the rest of the school!”
