On the Cutting Edge

Sunday 16 March saw the arrival of a state-of-the-art addition to the facilities of the Design and Technology department – an industrial-standard flat bed router that can handle very large sheets of material. The new machine, called a  MultiCam 1000 series CNC router weighs over a tonne and was installed over a period of several days by a team of experts. The machine offers multiple cutting options while delivering clean, smooth edge quality. Other options include automatic tool change spindles, vacuum tables and pumps, mist coolant systems, vision systems and tangential knives. The machine will significantly enhance the resources of the department and allow the students to make a greater range of large scale products from the comfort of their computer screens.

The 1000R Series is an entry level, moving gantry design CNC router featuring a heavy, all-steel plate frame base. The custom engineered, extruded aluminum gantry can carry multiple cutting options while delivering clean, smooth edge quality. Options include automatic tool change spindles, vacuum tables and pumps, mist coolant systems, vision systems and tangential knives. Available with a selection of spindles from 4 HP to 7.5 HP and standard table sizes up to 80” X 240”, the 1000 series provides a strong, stable routing platform at a very affordable price.
