What a Tournament!

The final Summer term was to host the second instalment of the SPARTA Inter school Champions League for Years 5 and 6.

Once again, team names were created by the students with a cap on the number of football squad players allowed in each team.

The league was played out by all teams with a tremendous amount of passion and tenacity despite the hot conditions. Throughout the tournament there had been some excellent football on display, with plenty of tricks, assists and goals showcasing the development all of the players had made throughout the year.

Coming into the final week of fixtures there were two teams tied on points hoping to be crowned champions, Mighty Minionz and Great Banter. Following the final round of fixtures, both teams were still tied on points and now level on goal difference. Both teams agreed to play a play-off final, and following goals from Mattius and Seb, the final ended 1-1. This meant we were forced to play school ground rules of “next goal wins” in extra time.

However, the game still could not be settled and so it came down to sudden death penalties. Mighty Minionz scored their first goal but this was cancelled out by Great Banter scoring theirs. Mighty Minionz again took the lead meaning that Great Banter needed to score to keep the game alive. Unfortunately, the next penalty for Great Banter was missed, meaning Mighty Minionz were crowned as champions.

Congratulations to Mighty Minionz who played a terrific tournament, which was made extra special by the fact that they won the tournament using only players from Year 5.

Congratulations also to Ali Al-Nusuf who picked up the golden boot for the tournament having netted 13 goals.
